Review: Get Your Sh*t Together – Sarah Knight

I decided to read this book after a brief introduction to ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F*ck’ as presented as a TEDx Talk by the author herself. As a clear parody of Marie Kondo’s hit success ‘The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up’, it does well in the way that it focuses on mental, instead of physical decluttering. However! That’s not the book I’m here to review, so I’m going to get straight into it.

Much like ‘The Life-Changing Magic’ Ted Talk, I feel that ‘Get Your Sh*t Together’, could have been condensed a lot more and still have the same message.

I will praise Knight for leaving no stone unturned with the range of topics that the book covers, as well as a lack of long, rambling anecdotes. That being said, while the anecdotes didn’t bore me, they felt too self-invested and bragging. I do understand though that this was the point of the book, like, ‘if you can get your shit together, you too can be as good as me’ .

I read this book in audiobook format, which I would recommend over the print copy, as it is narrated by Knight herself. I think it adds an extra fun layer to the book as it has Knight’s own vocal inflection to portray the book as it was intended to be read. Not only that, but the fact that Knight sounds a little bit like Kristen Bell is an added bonus, and really helped me to get through the slog of some of the slower parts.

Overall I think this book raises some good points, while being a bit slow and unnecessary in some parts.

Let me know what you thought of this book, or if you have something similar you think I should read!

That’s all for now!
